How much bandwidth do you need?

Bandwidth is the amount of data that your website can send to website visitors in one month. Bandwidth can be best described as gas/petrol for a car. If your website runs out of bandwidth nobody will be able to visit it. More than 95% of the websites do not need more than 500MB per month bandwidth.

You should plan for more bandwidth if you plan to use a lot of images, very high volume email accounts or audio/video on your website. Sites like mp3.com require an enormous amount of bandwidth, but for the average site - a low level will be enough in almost all cases.

Email accounts

This depends on how many people or department in your company would need independent email accounts. Plan for more space and bandwidth if you think you need high volume email accounts.

Generally emails that come to your account are stored on the hard disk of the server. If you leave all the mails on the server, than you need to buy a lot of space just for email storage and depending you the volume of mails you receive, in couple of months it may grow to many thousand MB (Mega Bytes).

We recommend you use a POP client to fetch all the mail you get to your personal computer. A POP client connects to you server and gets all the mail from the server to your local machine. Now you are using your server space only as a temporary store for your emails and this way you will only need about 10-20MB per email account.

You can use POP clients such as Outlook Express, Netscape, Eudora or Mozilla Thunderbird for fetching mails from the server.
